Setting Windows Default Keyboard Layout (IME)

InScript keyboard comes inbuilt in all of the newer operating systems. In Windows 2000 and XP, you need to first enable Indic Support. In Windows Vista, Indic Support is enabled by default.
To add InScript keyboard:-

  • Go to Control Panel -> "Regional and Language Options".
  • Click the "Languages" tab.
  • Click on the "Details" tab.
  • Click the "Add" button to add a keyboard for your particular language.
  • In the drop-down box, select your required Indian language.
  • Make sure the check box labeled "Keyboard layout/IME" is selected and ensure you select an appropriate keyboard. Generally it is automatically selected.
  • Now select "OK" to save changes.

Now you can use the combination ALT+SHIFT to switch between different keyboard layouts (e.g. from a US Keyboard to Hindi and vice-versa). Although it is advised to change this key combination to CTRL+SHIFT because it is more comfortable. For doing this, click on "Key Settings" below the heading "Preferences", next click on "Change Key Sequence", here you can change the hotkey combination to CTRL+SHIFT.
